About
The Center was established by the decision of the Rector of Adam Mickiewicz University, Prof. Dr. Hab. Bogumiła Kaniewska, on July 1, 2021, and operates at the Faculty of Polish and Classical Philology at Adam Mickiewicz University. It conducts intercollegiate activities for the development of research, creativity, and readership of electronic literature in Poland. The Center for Electronic Literature Research is open to collaboration with all researchers and creators of e-literature interested in the development of literary practices in digital media.
Objectives of the Center for Electronic Literature Research (CBLE)
Interdisciplinary Research on Electronic Literature
The establishment of an interdisciplinary team of specialists – representatives of various humanities, social sciences, and technical disciplines (including literary scholars, cognitive scientists, media scholars, cultural studies experts, IT specialists, etc.) aims to develop research on electronic literature in Poland and internationalize its outcomes.
Supporting the Development of New Forms and Genres of Electronic Literature
Through the collaboration of researchers, artists, and readers, a digital literature laboratory can flourish. The Center’s staff conducts lectures, workshops, and creative writing courses using programs designed for creating digital works. Educational activities take place at the Faculty of Polish and Classical Philology, but cooperation with schools and cultural centers is also possible, as well as organizing online classes for those interested in learning creative writing.
Archiving Polish Electronic Literature Works
The rapidly advancing technology contributes to the quick obsolescence of software used to create electronic works. Many projects created in the early 21st century are no longer accessible. The goal of the activities undertaken at the Center is to gather historical resources of e-literature in one place, which can serve as an invaluable source of historical and theoretical knowledge about the development of e-literature for future researchers.
Promoting, Popularizing, and Supporting the Creation, Publishing, and Reading of Electronic Literature
One of the important tasks carried out at the Center is to disseminate knowledge about digital art and develop technical skills among recipients related to using digital tools in creative activities. Through the organization of conferences, exhibitions, shows, and workshops, awareness of the existence and specificity of literature in digital media and the virtual environment should increase. Digital competencies translate into increased critical awareness and practical skills among the literary audience.
